BLACK HOLE COULOIR

DSC03287 (2)
I spotted this stunning couloir from the top of 10686 near Waterfalls Canyon a few years ago. Jon and I decided to give it a shot yesterday. We crossed Jackson Lake and headed up Waterfalls Canyon to the base of the Couloir.

The snow was variable on the way up with a shallow wind slab giving us the most concern.  Not enough to turn us around, we continued to the top.

The top of the Couloir was a pretty wild spot. We were at a small notch along a long northern ridge of Eagles Rest Peak. The wind was strong while being funneled through the notch. Clouds, sun, wind and snow were swirling around us.

The Couloir was variable skiing in a stunning location.

Another fine wilderness adventure to a seldom skied Couloir. I would like to petition the court of first descents for the line to be called the “Black Hole Sun Couloir”, because I am a Soundgarden fan.

Good job Michael, Bernie and Jon!!! Really stepping it up to surprising and scary new realms. The images seem elongated on my computer though. Pretty sure they are. I think the incredible content is too much for the digital medium to accomodate. Sittin here at the Rhode Island State House thinkinn about skiing where you are Mike, Bernie, Jon. I miss you all. I hope youre all happy and have interest in visiting the most amazing beaches in the world? My home is your home. dont deprive yourselves of the ultimate Rhode Island vacation, or life?
